Product Description
A Bodok seal is the small sealing washer that sits between a pin-index yoke regulator and the valve of a medical gas cylinder. It is what makes that connection gas-tight. Without one, or with one that has perished, the regulator leaks and the cylinder will not deliver usable flow.
These suit Series O regulators and any equipment with a pin-index yoke inlet fitting for medical gas cylinders. Available in a pack of 10 or a pack of 25.
When to replace a Bodok seal
Most protocols call for the seal to be replaced when the cylinder is changed, and for it to be inspected before every use. Follow your own procedure and the regulator manufacturer's instructions.
Replace it, rather than refitting it, if you see any of the following:
- Splitting, flattening, cracking or a permanent indentation in the centre
- Any distortion or damage to the metal outer ring
- An audible hiss at the yoke after the cylinder is opened
- The seal is missing, or you cannot say when it was last changed
Never improvise a replacement with a washer that is not a Bodok seal, and never use oil, grease or tape to stop a leak at an oxygen fitting.
Why practices keep spares
This is one of the items most often found missing when a resuscitation kit is audited. It costs very little, it is easy to lose when cylinders are swapped, and the kit is unusable without it. Keeping a pack of spares with each kit or trolley is cheap insurance.
