What is Medical Air?
Medical air is a high grade medical gas made of 100% air. It is odourless, colourless and non flammable and commonly stored as a compressed gas until use by medical professionals.
Uses and Applications
Medical Air is used as a replacement for the normal air you breathe in (atmospheric air). It is used when the atmospheric air has been contaminated by fumes, vapours or gases which may irritate you or are dangerous to your health when breathed in. In ventilators and incubators, it provides clean and controlled air flow. Medical Air is also used as a carrier gas for volatile anaesthetics during surgery.
- Replacement atmospheric air
- Sedation or Anesthesia/Analgesia
In the administration of medical air there are a number of additional pieces of equipment that will be required to complete the set-up. For a general set-up a gas regulator is required and each regulator is specific to the gas type. For medical air you will need the series o medical air regulator by Comweld. In addition to this a air/oxygen flowmeter is generally required to regulate the flow of gas to the instrument or patient.
